Renowned Lacemaker, Jacqui Barber, Guest Speaker at Kinsale Lace Week March 2016

Jacqui Barber is a Bobbin Lacemaker, Designer, Teacher, Speaker and Author who exhibits her work at home and abroad. She is widely travelled, sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm promoting this ancient craft in an exciting modern way.

Jacqui uses the traditional techniques of Torchon style lace - making a bigger grid and manipulating colours and textures into a new fabric for fashion items -  e.g. scarves, bags, belts etc.  Two books have encouraged lacemakers world-wide to try something new most successfully – both the experienced worker and the ‘new to the craft’ find it fascinating and Wow!

She belongs to various Groups and Organisations – always taking part in as much as she can to further the public’s awareness of this important heritage.

Still producing new patterns, Jacqui continues to Tutor Workshops – fun days she calls them – with new ideas appearing all the time. Each piece of this work is unique as it cannot be duplicated and remains personal to its maker.

Jacqui is often quoted as saying –‘Lacemaking is not all whole- stitch and half-stitch, it is meeting people and sharing ideas’! Long may it continue!

Jacqui's lecture will take place in the Trident Hotel, Kinsale at 2.30 p.m on Wednesday, 23 March 2016. All welcome. Admission €10.
