The McMullen Museum of Art at Boston College is holding an exhibition of late 19th century and early 20th century Irish Arts and Crafts – The Arts & Crafts Movement: Making It Irish from February to June 2016.
Included in the exhibits are two floor length dresses which regularly feature in our lace fashion shows. One is a beautiful example of Youghal Crochet, the second dress is very fine linen with delicate sprigging and Irish crochet inserts. The brochure for the exhibition describes the pieces as “exquisite lacework produced by rural women and organised by elite patrons”. We are delighted that these beautiful dresses are part of this major exhibition.
